Why this course?
You are a professional engaged in advocacy, civil society capacity building, governance or transparency programmes. You may represent a network, an alliance, an association or a trade-union. You defend the interests of many or promote rights for your target groups. This course will assist you in understanding how you can influence a policy process. From the first stages to final implementation. Obtain a broad set of tools to plan effective advocacy strategies. Conduct actions with well-framed messages, and create coherent paths with your allies for powerful joint interventions. Learn how to monitor advocacy results.
Course Objectives
- Understand how to embed advocacy actions in your organization’s plans
- Use practical tools and methods to plan, prepare, implement and evaluate advocacy initiatives
- Analyse stakeholders and policy context
- Gain insight into building strong coalitions, select your political targets, frame your messages in convincing ways
- Practice how to conduct influential lobby meetings
- Learn how to monitor advocacy results
Course Agenda
This course is offered over a 4-day period, involving 8 sessions which lasts 1.5 hours each (2 sessions per day). The course is based on a participatory, active learning approach with a combination of guided virtual classroom and learning at your pace. Senior Trainer/Consultant (MDF Vietnam)
Mr. Toonen is senior trainer of MDF Vietnam office. Koen also has over 20 years of development experience at the UN. He was involved in managing the UNDP-UNEP Poverty Environment Partnership. He is an all-round development expert and trainer. - Ger Roebeling
Senior Trainer/Consultant (MDF Netherlands)
Ms. Ger Roebeling has a longstanding career in International Cooperation with experience in the field, and 20 years in different management positions (from programme management to general director) in International organisations, ranging from the Netherlands to Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europa & Caucasus, and MENA region. She is the founder of several policy networks based on Trade, Food Security, WASH up to EU, UN and World Trade Organisation levels.
